The predictive role of electrocardiographic abnormalities in ischemic stroke patients with intravenous thrombolysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background/Objectives The association between electrocardiographic abnormalities and the outcomes in acute ischemic stroke patients after intravenous thrombolysis remains unclear. We sought to assess the predictive value of electrocardiographic abnormalities in stroke patients after thrombolysis. Methods Consecutive acute stroke patients with thrombolysis from Feb 2008 to Jun 2013 were included. Electrocardiographic abnormalities during hospitalization were retrospectively reviewed. Outcomes were 90-day modified Rankin's Score. Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the association of electrocardiographic abnormalities with 90-day outcome. Results From Feb 2008 to Jun 2013, 95 acute stroke patients (median age of 67 and 64.2% male) with electrocardiographic before/after thrombolysis and 90 day modified Rankin's Score were recruited in our study. Increased age (p = 0.027), higher baseline National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (p < 0.001) and T-wave changes (p = 0.030) were significantly associated with worse functional outcome. T-wave changes (odds ratio 5.54, 95% confidence interval 1.37-22.37, p = 0.016) were independently associated with unfavorable outcome. Conclusions T-wave changes can be useful markers to predict the outcome in stroke patients after thrombolysis.

Factors Affecting the Length of Hospital Stay in Patients with Ischemic Stroke Treated by Intravenous Thrombolysis
Background and purpose: Ischemic stroke is one of the most common neurological diseases that leads to disability in many cases. The aim of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the duration of hospitalization in patients with ischemic stroke undergoing thrombolytic therapy. Materials and methods: This retrospective descriptive-analytical study was performed in consecutive adult p...
متن کاملThrombolysis in Stroke Patients; Problems and Limitations
Thrombolysis for stroke is being used in some developing countries. This study was designed to evaluate the problems of thrombolysis therapy in Iran. During January-July 2008, all patients with ischemic stroke admitted to Ghaem Hospital, Mashhad, northeast Iran, were enrolled in a prospective observational study. Ghaem Hospital is a tertiary care hospital that includes infrastructure for thromb...

Myxoma may cause systemic embolization and frequently presents as ischemic stroke. There has been debates whether it is safe to use recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) in patients with cardiac myxoma who are presented with ischemic stroke at emergency department. we describe a young case of atrial myxoma with initial presentation of acute cerebral infarction symptoms who was treate...
متن کاملSafety and feasibility of intravenous thrombolytic therapy in Iranian patients with acute ischemic stroke
Background: Thrombolytic therapy is the only approved treatment for acute cerebral ischemia. The hemorrhagic transformation is the greatest complication of this treatment, which may occur after recanalization of occluded artery. The aim of this study was to determine factors associated with clinical improvement and worsening in patients with acute ischemic stroke treated with intravenous th...

Background: To determine whether it is possible to predict intravenous thrombolytic therapy (IVT) outcome after 3 months in acute ischemic stroke patients who are candidate to receive recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA), before rt-PA administration based on their risk factors and some available laboratory results. Methods: We enrolled 118 ischemic stroke patients who were treated ...
